Eddie Brock is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics universe. He first appeared in The Amazing Spider-Man # 299, published in March 1988. He is known as the identity of the anti-hero Venom.
Eddie was a successful journalist and reporter who was disgraced when his story about the serial killer the Sin-Eater was revealed to be a hoax. He became obsessed with Spider-Man, blaming him for his downfall. Eddie ultimately bonded with an alien symbiote that had previously attached itself to Spider-Man, giving him immense strength and other powers as Venom.
Eddie has since become a prominent character in the Spider-Man mythos and has also appeared in his own series and other Marvel Comics titles. He has undergone various changes throughout his comic book history, becoming an anti-hero, villain, and sometimes ally of Spider-Man.
